They looked outside and there were trees
They looked inside and there was a forest
The light flickered as it fell
Through their shadowed land

Can Balaguer is a stately home in Palma. Its door knocker is a woman’s hand tapping for entry with an apple, but the life of trees, of living things, can feel remote today. They often enter us as images sliding past on our screens, their new fragility become untouchable. At the same time, our minds flicker with shadows we call climate anxiety because as living things draw back like retreating sea, we await the breaker.
The House and the Forest explores this as an intervention reflecting on today’s emotional weather; refracted through an ancient house because home today has a yesterday.
